a

Are you heading to Pony Club Camp over the holidays? If you are, we’ve got the ultimate checklist of the items you didn’t even know you needed for Pony Club Camp! These are in addition to the kit list that will have been provided by your Pony Club.

Baby wipes

It’s a rogue one we know, but stay with us, they cover all bases! No showers, no need to worry here’s a baby wipe. Sticky fingers, don’t worry we’ve got the baby wipes. Your greedy horse has got grassy saliva all over you and your clean jodhpurs, don’t worry here are the baby wipes! Name something that works harder than a baby wipe at pony club camp…

Hay nets and lots of them

Whether it’s for your Silvermoor haylage or a Silvermoor Grassabix for distraction as you get your pony ready for the day, a hay net or little Grassabix net is a must-have item and not to be forgotten.

At least two sets of riding gloves

You’re always going to lose at least one glove if not two, so be prepped and don’t get caught on the hop, make sure you take at least two pairs. Where do all the lost gloves go? A question that has never been answered!

A large waterproof coat

Think EquiDry or something similar. Even if the forecast says its going to stay dry, we know never to believe them, it’s the great British summer after all! This will have you sorted for wet weather and will help keep you warm in the cold evenings and the dewy mornings.

Waterproof sheet for the horse

Don’t forget about your four-legged best friend when it comes to the weather, make sure you pack a waterproof sheet in case it pours down.

Body protector & helmet

The all important body protector and helmet are both indispensable. Make sure yours adhere to BETA standard. Find out more HERE with BETA’s handy guide.

Tack cleaning and horse grooming equipment

This one speaks for itself. You need to show your pony off in his or her’s best light, so make sure you pack all your hero cleaning equipment to keep everything sparkly while you are there. Don’t forget the cloth!

First aid kit

For you and your horse, this is an essential but something we hope you’ll never have to use. Be sure to check that everything in your kit is still in date, often medical materials have expiry dates.

Horse entertainment

The trip away from home is going to feel a bit strange for your pony so make sure you pack plenty of boredom breakers and stable entertainment for them. This will keep their mind occupied and prevent them from feeling stressed. A Silvermoor Swinger is the perfect option. It’s unique shape and hanging design coupled with its low sugar, low starch credentials mean it’s perfect for your pony while its away from home. The hanging design means the Swinger will bounce away each time your pony goes in for a bite, because of this it will last longer than similarly sized traditional forage. This is great at protecting the gut from gastric ulcers as it prolongs saliva production.

Replacement rubbers for your safety stirrups

Be sure to stock up on these little rubber bands. We all know they can easily snap, so it’s best to be prepared.

Hair bobbles

There are never enough in the world and like our riding gloves they are always disappearing so make sure you pack EXTRAS!

Hydration mash

Whether the weather is hot, or you are simply exercising your pony more than it is used to, it is important to keep an eye on its hydration. A great way to get your pony to consume more water is to make a hydrating, delicious, healthy mash from a Silvermoor Grassabix. All you need to do is add water to a Grassabix block and let it soak up and create the mash. Your pony will be so grateful for this yummy, hydrating snack.

Warm layers

Whether you are camping or not and even if its set to be a scorcher always make sure you pack lots of extra layers. The nights can be cool.

Your PC Clothing

Your Pony Club tie, a white shirt, PLENTY of pairs of cream jodhpurs (we all know they’re not going to stay clean for long!) and your jacket.

Slip on shoes

There’s always a need for speed when getting ready in the mornings or after a break and a slip-on shoe like a Croc is always handy especially when it’s hot so you don’t have to pull your boots on all the time. Remember you can only wear these away from the horses.

Sun cream

Whether it’s hot or not, always so important!

All these items aside, the most important thing about Pony Club Camp is to have fun, make memories that last a lifetime, meet new people and forge friendships, and learn how best to care for your pony.

And finally one for the parents
