Sustainability wins for Silvermoor; Northumberland company Silvermoor Ltd are celebrating winning the ‘Sustainability’ section of the New Product Awards at BETA International with Eco Treatsies.
Silvermoor’s Eco Treatsies have triumphed at the BETA International trade show this week in the Sustainability section of the New Product Awards. They were awarded Gold in the ‘sustainability’ section and runner up in the ‘feed and treat’ section.
The economical for the pocket and eco-friendly paper packaged grass treats are not only delicious, but are low sugar, low starch, and high fibre, so are a nutritious and healthy treat for horses and ponies as well as lamas, alpacas and donkeys.
Claire Williams from BETA International commenting said: “Sustainability is vital for all of us, and equestrians are no exception. The real magic comes when a product has great sustainability credentials and is also an exceptional product in its own right, and that’s why Silvermoor won this category with the Eco Treatsies. The product was developed to be sustainable from the source, using Silvermoor grass, dried on site using sustainable heat sources, and packaged using recyclable material too. With sustainability built in to the product rather than a nice-to-have addition at the end, we feel the process behind Eco Treatsies’ development is one that we would love to see more of over the years.”
Made up of 100% homegrown grass from Silvermoor’s farm the grass is then high temperature dried with Silvermoor’s sustainable biomass heat source to lock in nutrients and the natural bright green colour. It is then pelletised and packaged in their fully recyclable paper packaging on-site by the team at Silvermoor’s production facilities in Northumberland. Not only does this guarantee a consistent, delicious product and ensures quality, but it also minimises the carbon footprint as the products do not travel off-site.
Managing Director, Ralph Thompson, commented on the win:
“We are delighted that Eco Treatsies have taken gold in the sustainability section. We worked hard to create a product that is eco-friendly both in terms of production and packaging and could be economically priced. With the cost of living continuing to rise we know many horse owners are feeling the pinch but want to still be able to treat their horse to a healthy snack without compromising on quality whilst being as environmentally friendly as possible.”
