How should I store my haylage in sunny weather?
It’s that time of year again when the sun makes its annual appearance, so with that in mind, we wanted to touch on storing haylage in sunny weather.
Where?
When you are storing haylage in sunny weather where is the best place? The very best place to put it is to store it in a cold, dry environment and most importantly out of direct sunlight.
If storing out of direct sunlight is not possible you may find your bags, especially at this time of year, puff up like a pillow. This happens due to the naturally occurring micro-organisms in the haylage reacting with the heat from the sunlight, respiring and producing gasses. It does not affect the haylage and it is still safe to feed.
Top tip
If you can, keep your packs raised off the ground slightly on a pallet to prevent any damage to the bag from rodents.
If you accidentally nick a bag or notice that it has been nibbled, be sure to open and use this bag straight away.
Keep your haylage covered
